What`s Your Breakfast Favorite?

7:54 AM

For a week, I`ve been feeding on Palabok for breakfast. There`s this sweet little panciteria which recently opened in our street (for my non-Filipino friends, panciteria is like a pizzeria but selling pancit  or Chinese stir-fried noodles instead of pizza :), and since my Dad found out about it, we`ve been buying palabok, which is a pancit variety, for breakfast ever since. Plus, there are a couple of bakeries in our street too, so Pan de Sal (salt bread) which is a Filipino breakfast staple (always baked fresh every morning) is always easily accessible.

Pandessal

I love palabok but I`m not really so fond of Pan De Sal. It`s hard to eat it lying down because the crumbs  covering it always finds its way to my eyes. And those crumbs are like sand! Now, why do I eat it lying down, anyway? haha My Mom just loves waking us up in the morning, carrying breakfast to bed. But it doesn`t happen now since I wake up earlier than her and my sisters do jump out of bed at the smell of pancit. ;)

Aside from palabok, I have a few favorites for breakfast.

coffeeI`m so in love with Japanese blend coffee. And I like it iced. Forget about brewed, Starbucks and all.

Untitled-2 copy

(aka. McDonalds Egg McMuffins)

This is on my list because I`m really craving for it! Mmmm…. I wish I could have this everyday, but that`d be too bad for my health.

3

I feel healthy drinking a glass of milk in the morning. Hot chocolate makes feel like a kid again. I love, love, love mallows!

Creamy Macaroni Soup

This is common in Filipino households for breakfast, when Moms are in the mood for some cooking and a lot of chopping early in the morning. My Mom even makes prawn dishes when she feels like it. haha But I never stopped loving creamy macaroni soup no matter what yummy dishes Mama ever came up with for breakfast.

Fruits

I could just have an apple in the morning and I`m ready to go {But it would be good if there`d be cheese slices. haha}. Seriously, I could feed on fruits and vegetables alone for a week or month… I`m in love with any fruit that grows on trees. The other week, I’ve been eating kiwi everyday until we ran out it. I ate everything on my own. ;)

Well, this is my ideal breakfast. It’s hard to cook in the morning… haha and because I usually don’t want anything heavy like rice, but I do love fried rice with Spanish sausage and all.

But since I`m missing tuna fritters and eggs, I’m gonna go to supermarket and make a breakfast menu for a week. If there’s really one house chore I love doing for the family, that’s cooking and seeing them happily eating is my joy!

How about you?

What’s your breakfast staple? Favorites?

Hit that comment button and why not share a picture too?

Good morning!

Yes! Cold Soybean Noodles!

1:59 AM

Do you remember the Cold Soybean noodle soup I showed you almost a year ago here on the blog? I finally found the recipe tonight!

4901715118_1c99f9b310_z1

I asked Papa if we could buy soybeans anywhere here. I`ve never held soybeans with my hands ever before! I love taho and soymilk but never seen how a real soybean looks like. My Dad said soybeans can be bought in supermarkets! Yes! And though I kindda doubted and thought that maybe what he meant was sago {the black pearls in your pearl shakes}, I might as well trust him, right?

So here`s the recipe of kongguksu (Kong means beans in korean, Guksu means noodle soup {Yey! I`m learning my Korean, writing that down from memory. Aaah! Yabang! I`m too proud! }. I`m gonna try this as soon as I find those beans somewhere. You should try too!

My Allergies, Steamed Eggs and A Healthy Daniel Diet

4:32 AM

Oh dear! I`m really not feeling so well so well today. I can`t sleep.

I made this delicious banchan last night for dinner---herb steamed eggs—a steamed version of the herb baked eggs I posted here on the blog last month. I tell you, it was really delicious and my meticulous Mom (who`s hard to feed) agreed on that. BUT!

Eggs

I forgot I got allergies with steamed eggs! The last time I had them, 3 years ago in Hongkong, my face and neck swelled like a bloated fish and I felt I needed to go to the hospital. I also had to buy medicine from the local drugstore and use them even though I really can`t read or understand the labels. I just trusted the pharmarcist `cause he looked kinda cute. haha Kidding!

See how I got sick and look sicker and sicker that day in HK, 3 years ago…IMG_7875

10 Yummy Kid-Friendly Recipes

9:49 PM

Ava and I love the ham-apple-cheese wraps recipe we got from Martha Stewart. Too bad, I didn`t take a photo last time we made it. I love and crave for it so much that sometimes, when we`ve got no ham or cheese for the wrap, I just slice an apple and dip it in a cheesy dip and it`s enough to make my day.

I`ve always, always been a fan of kid-friendly recipes over the net because they`re simple and fun and so easy to do. Here are a few of my favorite recipes you must also try to enjoy yourselves.

Happy Tuesday! {Links to the recipe are in pink letters.}

1. Apricot and Cheddar Chicken Melt

image

In this cute, yummy recipe, apricot jam/ preserves is spread on a baguette, and then topped with chicken, cheese and ham and brought to the broiler to make the cheese melt.

Kids and grown-ups would love this for snacks! Yum!

Ripe here!

imageMini TurkeyBurger

It`s hard to find thick burger patties in Philippine supermarkets. I also wonder why. Winking smile But you can always make one anyway.

I love this recipe. If there`s no turkey, you can substitute chicken instead and whoala! You`ve got thick mini chicken burger patties to enjoy!

Beef Tacos

How `bout lean ground sirloin and low-fat tortillas for your tacos?

This one`s a little “fiery” {uses chili paste} but can always be excluded if you wish.

Classy Herb-Baked Eggs

1:26 AM

I`m thinking about something for breakfast tomorrow because I`m tired of pan noodles and canned tuna. ;) This week had been fairly busy so none of us ever made our way to supermarket.

So these eggs are just fine `cause they`re everywhere and we`ve got plenty of herbs, still, in the kitchen cabinets (I tried to hide my secret herbs but yeah, they`re running out. My sister Viola is trying them on everything she cooks).

Baked eggs on ramekin dishes! My dad would be so proud. Very, very French!

Mmmm… What can you say?

But I should follow the instructions carefully because they`re not as easy as scrambled eggs. Aaah. It`s good food. It`s FRENCH.

And Cathy, everything that`s French is classy. Everything that looks classy can be complicated.image

But I won`t give up! And you shouldn`t either.

Wanna try this with me tomorrow morning?

Weekly Reading List: Recipes

7:32 PM

For a change, I’m posting only one link for inspiration and the rest would be recipes I’m dying to try soon—if not this week.

I don`t know but I suddenly became so excited to cook again. Funny thing is that my sister Ava was recruited to join a pageant (whoa! I`ll tell you in another post) and she`ll be working hard to stay fit for next coming weeks. Haha Good thing there`s no swimsuit competition `cause I might not be a good influence to her eating habits. haha Anyway, my conservative sister won`t join if there is such. ;)

Enjoy cooking!
